Knife Review: SOG Fielder G-10

Snapshot

The SOG Fielder is a sleek and sturdy clip-point folder perfect for EDC. Standard with pocket clip, high-shine steel panels and a straight blade, it’s makes more sense to carry around town than it does as a camping work-horse. But no matter the use, the locking mechanism is solid, it holds up well under heavy use, and it starts around $25, so it’s a budget-friendly way to add to your collection.

Form and Function

I was excited to receive my Fielder to replace my previous EDC knife that finally broke. I wanted something reliable and strong without being too bulky and this seemed to hit the mark perfectly. The blade length is just right being a little larger than what non-EDC folks expect you to pull out of your pocket, but it slips easily into a front or back pocket and the subtle pocket-clip doesn’t draw much attention at all.

My favorite aspects of the knife are the weight and sturdy feel of it in your hand. The locking mechanism is incredibly solid and you feel confident every time you open and close. The blade holds an edge as well as any knife in my collection and lives up to what you would expect from a SOG.

I will admit that it’s not an ideal camping knife. While it’s blade and lock are as capable as any camping folder, the smooth, shiny metal on the top and bottom slip out of gloved hands relatively easily and scratch when dropped in rocks or and dirt.

Rating and Recommended Use

The SOG Fielder G-10 puts most others to shame as a reliable urban EDC.
